A WORLD FIRST EVENT FOR WILMSLOW GREEN ROOM
THE SIMULTANE-A-THON
What we want to do
We have called our event a - SIMULTANE-A-THON - it's a unique - never been done before - piece of street
entertainment / public performance - a world first !
See our 'In Cheshire' article!
On Saturday 3rd September 2011 at exactly 12 noon 10 separate casts from the theatre will start to read the 1 hour play
TELELUVVIES by Mike Woodhead and Emma Clarke - both of whom are critically acclaimed Northwest playwrights.
Each cast will be in 10 separate location across Cheshire - we will only read the play once and then disperse. There will be
5 cast members and 1 helper per group.
The locations planned so far are in Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Macclesfield and Knutsford. The town centre manager for
East Cheshire Council has confirmed that we can take up various locations in these towns for the duration of our reading.
We will not charge the public any money to watch the reading of the play, however we are looking to collect
funds for St Annes Hospice and have applied for the correct charity collection license in order to do this.
The idea for the SIMULTANE-A-THON is based on an actual Guinness World Record for the most simultaneous performances
of the same play.
So..... when each of our 10 casts has finished reading the play ......
the Wilmslow Green Room Theatre will have simultaneously read the same play at the same time, once,
with the most number of casts....' a World first.... we believe........
Why are We doing this?
Established 1924 - we are one of the oldest amateur theatre company's in the UK. The theatre plays an important role in the local community. We have a lot of people who are active now but may
not be in the next 10 years. We therefore need to create more awareness of the company and what we do in order to
attract new members to help us to keep the theatre going. This is also a team building exercise - it’s one event that the whole company can get involved in and we would also like to use the occasion to raise money for a worthy local cause: St Annes Hospice in Cheshire .
Media Interest
There has been considerable media interest locally. BBC Radio have already covered the story
and plan follow-up features inc on air on the day itself. We are hopeful that all the local papers will
cover the event - the August edition of IN CHESHIRE magazine are running a feature on The Green Room which
will include our plans for the SIMULTANE-A-THON.
TELELUVVIES
by Mike Woodhead and Emma Clarke
This is a comedy set in a Day Time TV studio and takes place in real time during a live broadcast. Real life husband
and wife presenters Julie and Nick who don’t exactly get on with each other are desperate to improve the poor ratings
of their TV show. However their series of poorly chosen guests only end up making matters much worse !
TELELUVVIES was a smash hit comedy play at the 1998 Edinburgh Fringe Festival receiving 5 star reviews and
glowing critical acclaim.
"Wonderfully paced, superbly observed -the very best in sit-down comedy" Scotsman
"Hilarious - will send your shoulders into super-drive - slick script" The List
"Good, pacy, observant - a lot of fun" The Manchester Evening News
During its pre Edinburgh show run in Manchester in 1998 TELELUVVIES was performed at The Wilmslow Green Room and
the original Edinburgh cast had 3 Wilmslow Green members in it: Jo Freeman, Gillian Jephcott and Graham Symmonds
